Bokhari complete an octagon of releases with this monster wax from France's master of quality over quantity, Life Recorder and Russian newcomer Semerka. The A-side belongs to Life Recorder, who brings the clear lines of Parisian class to the table with two sharp house cuts. First up, "Toms of Times" picks the melodic baton up where Laurent Garnier left it on "Acid Eiffel". Towering, but beautiful rather than imposing, the track opens up into a deep pool of Larry Heard style emotional acid gentle inviting you to slide in and slip away. Next up, the producer treats us to a sexy dose of deep acid funk with a proper rump shaker of a bassline. This track is your dream girl, sexy as hell, but well mannered enough to have tea with your gran. On the flip, new name Semerka pens his ode to the grandfather of abstraction Wassily Kandinsky, swapping the frost of the Eastern Bloc for...the frost of Chicago. "Kandinsky" is a real beauty of a deep house track, acid in that restrained Mr Fingers fashion, but built up from a truly soothing sound palette. If you're not up on your painters, I should point out that old Wassily was blessed with synesthesia, and saw beautiful melodies as explosions of colour. You'll know exactly how that feels once the chimes come in! If that weren't enough to have this one in your bag for the next six months, there's no way anyone could resist a rework from Firecracker's Fudge Fingas! The main man adds some tasty piano chords and loops those chimes into a rolling rattle that'll keep you beaming for days. The acid bassline is replaced by a warm and round sub swell, with the Scot reintroducing the original line as a counter melody to the soaring strings in the drop. Emotional and completely irresistible stuff on Bokhari number eight.
